Tissue Paper Flowers
Suggested Grade Level: Preschool-K
Based on: Barney & Friends #707: "Red, Yellow and Blue"
Objectives:
Colors are one of the first concepts that young children learn. By using
the five senses, and through the process of discovery, children can
successfully learn to identify colors. The primary colors (red, yellow,
blue) are the first three colors children learn.
The children will:
- identify the colors
red, yellow and blue
- discover that there
are many shades of the primary colors
- find objects in the
environment that are red, yellow or blue
- understand that colors
are everywhere and that colors make our world bright
Skills:
Materials:
- Red, yellow and blue
tissue paper
- Scissors
Directions:
Cut several squares out of colored tissue paper.
Students can choose which colors to use. They will need to fold each
square in half and match the corners together. Do this again to the
other corner and unfold.
Repeat with two other squares of tissue paper. Cut all three squares
into circles. Put all three circles together and twist the bottom making
a tissue paper flower.
Make flowers of all colors!
Extension:
Choose one primary color and fill the art center with that color: markers,
crayons, paint, clay, pipe cleaners, tissue paper, etc. Children can
see how creative they can be using items that are all the same color.
The next day, change the color. After three days, they will have a "red"
project, a "yellow" project and a "blue" project!
