Fish Stick Puppet
Suggested Grade Level: Preschool-K
Based on: Barney & Friends #719 - "Splish! Splash!"
Objectives:
Water plays a large role in the lives of young children. Children use
water for bathing, swimming, drinking, watering flowers, feeding pets,
cooking, washing clothes and washing dishes. They see water used (and
use it themselves) many times each day.
The children will:
- identify uses for water
- know that rain is a
source of water
- learn that all living
things depend on water (animals, plants, people)
- know that it is healthy
to drink water
- learn that water is
used for recreation (boating, swimming, splashing, fishing)
- learn that ponds are
homes to turtles, ducks, fish and frogs
- know that it is important
to keep ponds clean
- identify a pond as a
small body of water
Skills:
- Art
- Environmental awareness
Materials:
- Crayons and markers
- Paper
- Craft sticks
- Scissors
Directions:
This will be a great activity after discussing with children how all
living creatures need water.
Give each child a piece of paper. They can draw and decorate a fish
on the paper. After they cut out the fish, they can attach a craft stick
to make the fish a puppet.
Extension:
Sing this cute tune with the fish puppets:
"1-2-3-4-5
Once I caught a fish alive.
6-7-8-9-10,
Then I let it go again.
Why did you let it go?
Because it bit my finger so.
Which little finger did it bite?
This little finger on the right."
