Good Luck!

Make a good luck banner for Chinese New Year.

Materials

  • Red construction paper
  • Dark marker pens
Chinese symbol 'fu'

Directions

Hayley and Kery gave Buster a red banner for Chinese New Year with the Chinese word "fu," which means "good luck." Your child may also enjoy learning how to write the word "fu" on a New Year's banner. Hang the banner upside down so the "fu" can pour onto your heads.

Talk About It

Learn more about Chinese New Year's celebrations in the U.S. as you read and discuss "Lion Dancer," "My Chinatown," and "Sam and the Lucky Money" with your child (see Related Books). Talk about how your family celebrated the New Year.
