Activities

Picnic Time

Plan and enjoy a family picnic.

Materials

  • Various picnic supplies

Directions

Plan a family picnic, either outdoors or indoors. Make lists with your child of the supplies you'll need, then gather or make them together. In addition to the food, plan some activities. A three-legged race or a crab race might be fun. Try some relay races, for example, balancing a hardboiled egg on a spoon or a book on your head. Enjoy the food and games together!

Talk About It

Arthur's family comes to Nashville for a family reunion. They hold a picnic at the same park where Barin's family and community are having a picnic. With your child, discuss some of the ways those two gatherings are similar and different. Does your family have picnics, family gatherings or reunions? Where and when do you have them? What do you usually do? How are your family gatherings similar and different to the Kurdish gathering and the Read family reunion shown in this episode?
