BUSTER: Ski tips up. This kind of skiing is my speed. It's nice and sunny, not too steep, and no jumps. Hey, look, that guy's skiing sitting down. I've got to go see what that's about, okay?
BOY: Yeah, I'll wait for you right here.
BUSTER: Hi. My name's Buster.
RICKY: Hi. I'm Ricky.
BUSTER: Nice to meet you. I've never seen a ski like that. What is it?
RICKY: It's called a mono-ski.
BUSTER: "Mono-ski"? Because there's just one ski?
RICKY: Yeah.
BUSTER: Why do you use a mono-ski?
RICKY: Because I was born with a disability and I can't ski on regular two skis, so I use this.
BUSTER: It looks like it'd be a lot of fun. How does it work?
RICKY: Well, I just ski on that and then I have my outriggers with... it has a small ski and some brakes on the back to stop me, and that just helps me with my balance so that I won't fall over. And if I do, I just can get back up with them.
BUSTER: Are there other mono-skiers around? Do you ever have races?
RICKY: Yeah, they have competitions for qualifying for the Paralympics, and just doing ones for fun. I did one for fun about a week ago, and then I'm working to go to nationals.
BUSTER: Cool!
RICKY: Yeah, it's really fun. I've... like, I've never tried two skis, so I don't know how much fun that is, but this is a blast for me.
BUSTER: You want to take a run with me and Squirt?
RICKY: Sure.
BUSTER: Come on, Squirt!
Wow! These guys are really hard to keep up with.
