GPS: Lawrence Hall of Science

location, location, location
Lawrence Hall of Science is found just above the campus of the University of California, Berkeley. The museum sits on the coast of the San Francisco Bay. So if you go, be sure to check out the awesome view!

what’s to see and do?
The museum's Nanozone introduces kids to the world of the very small! Nanotechnology scientists move around atoms and molecules to make amazing new devices. Visit the Nanozone to measure yourself in nanometers or use a simulated scanning electron microscope to zoom in on a super-small world. Or stop by the Idea Lab for some hands-on time with magnets, hoop gliders, tangram puzzles, spinning tops, and paper copters. And while your sleeves are rolled up, check out the outdoor science park-Forces that Shape the Bay exhibit where you can ride earthquake simulators, play with erosion tables, and control the water flow from the simulated Sierra Nevada. Sounds earth shaking!

just for kids
In addition to regular demonstrations and tours, Lawrence Hall of Science offers classes such as Tools of Astronomy, Electric Wizardry, and Hands-on Algebra. (Who knew?) They also have family workshops, where kids like you can show the big folks what you know about science! LHS also has residential science camps, with various programs such as Coastal Ecology or a backpacking camp (the programs change each year) for kids ages 8 and up.
