This unique science center, which teaches people how to protect and improve their local environments, is part of Birmingham-Southern College in Birmingham, Alabama.
In the Southern Environmental Center's Interactive Museum, you'll slide down a giant Sewage Pipe, lift a week's worth of garbage, and learn about air pollution on a moving city-scape model. Next head out to the EcoScape gardens, a 4-acre outdoor classroom. Walking paths wind through a miniature Mobile Basin wetland, past big Bug sculptures made from recycled objects, and along the Appalachian Trail. For an extra dose of fun, be sure to check out the big tree house!
The best way to see this science center is as part of a group tour. As part of your visit, expect to practice ways to Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, making EcoArt jewelry out of discarded phone wires or toys out of empty soda containers, for example.
