Nano: Morehead Planetarium and Science Center

location, location, location
Morehead Planetarium and Science Center is located in downtown Chapel Hill on scenic Franklin Street. The building is on the north end of the campus of The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

what’s to see and do?
Morehead Planetarium and Science Center is one of the largest planetariums in the United States...and so much more! There are amazing star shows, movies, interactive exhibits, and live science presentations. A 'must' to check out is "Zoom In: Science at the Extremes." This two-part exhibit highlights the biggest and smallest parts of our universe through the story of a gamma ray burst discovery and the examination of the inner workings of a human lung. Science 360, in the NASA Digital Theater, explores the cutting-edge of science and technology through video and live interactions. Science LIVE! showcases exciting experiments by presenters. If the weather is nice, experiment with the giant sundial or visit the adjacent Coker Arboretum, part of the North Carolina Botanical Gardens.

just for kids
Morehead offers summer camps, science clubs, afterschool programs, and special events. For kids in grades K-5, the Morehead Afterschool Program (MAP) offers lots of activities relating to discovery, invention and imagination. Older kids should check out the Morehead Middle School Science Club. In this exciting program just for middle school students, college science majors and club members work together to design activities based on club members' individual interests. In past semesters, the club has investigated the science of language, peered through microscopes in a genetics lab, and tested out ideas for sustainable building.
