The Museum of Science and Industry is located in Chicago, IL, in the beautiful Hyde Park neighborhood. It is just steps away from Lake Michigan on 57th Street and Lake Shore Drive.
The Museum of Science and Industry is the largest science museum in the Western Hemisphere and has more than 14 acres of hands-on exhibits. An Omnimax® Theater compliments live science presentations and unique attractions, like a real German U-505 Submarine! The Coal Mine takes you down into a mine shaft to learn about historic and modern methods of mining coal. You can also get an up-close, "real-time" view of our planet on a 6-foot-wide globe in Earth Revealed. Watch as chicks peck out of their shells and take their first steps in the Baby Chick Hatchery that's part of the Genetics: Decoding Life exhibit. You can try out amazing new inventions in Fast Forward and watch factory robots build a toy in ToyMaker 3000. There are always new live science experiences and exhibits coming to MSI, so it's never the same place twice!
MSI works with schools and community groups across the Chicago area to host after-school Science Minors Clubs for 8- to 13-year-olds who are interested in hands-on science activities. Teens can join the Science Minors volunteer program where they learn about science and science careers and demonstrate activities for museum guests.
At http://www.msichicago.org/, you can watch videos of baby animals being born and see how the U-505 Submarine was moved. There are also ideas for fun, hands-on activities to do at home.
