• a large bowl with a flat bottom
• 2 different sized candles, one tall, and one short
• a glass half-filled with baking soda
• a bottle of vinegar

1. With a grown-up's help, carefully put the lit candles and glass of baking soda into the bowl.
2. Add vinegar to the glass of baking soda; the mixture will start to foam.
3. Watch the candle flames flicker... and go out! Which one goes out first?
