1900s
Characteristics of Queen Anne Houses
* Large sweeping porches with classical columns
* Steep pitched, irregular roofs
* Brick, stone, or terra cotta walls
* Not much detail in wood
The Victorian Queen Anne style was popular from the late 19th
century through the beginning of the 20th century. Large wealthier
homes, as well as smaller ones, were built in this style. In the
beginning of the century, some homes could be powered by electricity
and had indoor plumbing, but not all! As in earlier eras, steps
were usually made of limestone, as concrete had not become popular
yet. Call bells were used in wealthier homes, and wardrobes were
popular items, as rooms did not always have closets. |
