How to Use the Site

The History Detective Kids Web site is designed to help kids explore and solve history mysteries. The interactive content in this site provides kids with everything they need to know to become a History Detective and investigate a question or topic from start to finish. The site is set up for a kid to use on his or her own, with a friend, or with a parent or teacher.

Researching History With Your Child

There are many ways to encourage your child to research history. Trips to the library, to municipal buildings for government records, and even through family photo albums are engaging activities. If your child uses the Internet for research, review and approve the sites he visits for accuracy and safety.

Tools of the Trade

Detective Kit

The printable Super Sleuth Detective Notebook is designed for kids to print out and take with them on their next mission.

Use the booklist to get recommendations of classic history mysteries like Harriet the Spy, Nate the Great, Johnny Z, Sammy Keyes and more. Compiled by a consulting librarian, books are listed in order from easiest to the more challenging reads.
