Discussion questions for kids to bring up with adults

Did you have a nickname when you were a kid? Was it one that made you feel good, or feel bad? How did you earn the nickname?

If you had a bad nickname, how long did it stick to you?

If almost everybody calls a kid by a mean nickname, is it okay for me to do it too?

When are nicknames harmless fun, and when are they a form of bullying?

What can I say or do if kids call me by nicknames that I don't like?

How did I get the nickname that you call me? What about other nicknames in the family?

Remember:
--If you are being called a mean nickname at school, let your parents know exactly how it makes you feel.

--Your parents, or a brother or sister, might be calling you a nickname that you don't like, or that you think you've grown too old for. Without getting upset, explain that you'd like them to drop the nickname and call you something else.
