You don’t have time to answer Susie right away, because the boys and girls are being divided up and sent to their separate cabins. Later, you find Susie down by the river bank, gathering water. It’s a beautiful night, and Susie looks pretty in the glow from Lonestar 3, hanging huge up in the sky.
“Well,” she asks, “are you going to tell me why everyone is saying I’m scared to fly in an Astrojet?”
You’re sure Susie will hate you if you tell the truth, so you lie.
“I don’t have any idea why people would think you’re scared, Susie,” you say. “You’re one of the bravest girls I know…and the prettiest, too.”
“Nice try, jerk,” says Susie. “I know for a fact that you told the guys I was scared of flying. I only asked you now to give you a chance to admit the truth, but you blew it. And to think I was considering asking you to the Rodeo Dance! Looks like I’ll have to ask Luke.”
Susie walks away, leaving you by the river to think about how everything went wrong.
