About Me:
I grew up in California and moved to Minnesota when I was in 2nd grade. Now I'm seventeen and I live with my sister (who’s 11), mom, dad, and my cat Bella. I love music…playing it, listening to it, and composing it. During the summer, I'm a camp counselor and during

the school year, I volunteer at a local elementary school and my church. I’m a student at Illinois Wesleyan University, majoring in English and Psychology.

Hobbies:
I've played the piano for 8 years and I've been teaching myself guitar for about a year (acoustic and electric...I like electric better though). I write a lot of my own songs for both piano and guitar. I'm in choir and I also like singing in my car. I love writing; I'm the copy editor of our school newspaper.

Favorite...
Music: Among “older” music, Jimi Hendrix, Fleetwood Mac, Bob Dylan, Tom Petty, Chicago, and Eric Clapton. Recent music: Dispatch, Pedro the Lion, Guster, Something Corporate, Ben Folds and Ari Hest.
TV Shows: I don't watch it a lot, but if I do, I watch “Trading Spaces” or soap operas on the Spanish channel.
Movies: “Dumb and Dumber,” “High Fidelity,” “Chocolat,” and “Casablanca”
Book: Anything by H.L. Mencken, John Steinbeck or R.W. Emerson. I'm also a Shakespeare fan. I've loved “The Phantom Tollbooth” by Norton Juster since I was 9

Hobbies: I like going out with my friends to the mall, movies and dinner. I am also into sports such as tennis, softball, and basketball. I am on the Girls Varsity Tennis Team. I am an active member in DECA at my high school and Best Buddies, too. They both are involved with helping developmentally disabled students.

Goals:
To be successful in the field of education, and to graduate from college with a degree in Pre-Law. I’d also like to be happily married and loved by the age of 30!

Female mentor Michelle

About Me:
I live in southern California. I have an older brother and sister, but am almost an only child as both are moving out soon. I am going to be a senior at my high school. I love to smile. I love to laugh. I love to make a fool of myself as long as it entertains other people. I have learned so much in my life due to the wonderful people who have crossed my path, and I look forward to all the knowledge I still have left to learn.

Hobbies: I like to read, but I'm not a big fan of the books that teachers make us read. I love to write: stories, songs, poems, whatever comes to mind. I play softball. I love to just hang out with my friends at the beach, or see movies, or just have fun.

Favorite…
TV Show:
Alias and 24
Music: 80's music, oldies, country, hip-hop…anything I can dance to and anything that I can sing along to!
Movie: Saving Private Ryan, Miracle, October Sky, Elf

Goals:
My ultimate goal is just to be satisfied with my life. As long as I can smile about what I have done, and not regret too much, I think I will be satisfied. Hopefully that will include becoming a journalist of some sort and raising a family. Hopefully it involves lots of friendships, memories, and inspiring moments.

After that, I hope to either work as an astrophysicist for NASA at JPL or to be a teacher of autistic children. Some of my life goals are to: own a 6 foot spork, have a pool full of Strawberry Banana Jell-o, reach 5'3" or 5'4" (I'm only 5'2" right now), and be happy.

Female mentor Roxanne

About Me:
I live in Singapore which from the U.S. is practically halfway across the world! I go to an all-girls school and most of my close friends are girls, so I guess it's strange to say that I get along better with guys than girls. My best friend lives in Pennsylvania. We've in best friends since I was 7 and she was 6, but we've never met. I have two sisters who go to elementary school. My favorite subject is Literature and I despise Math. My absolute favorite thing to do is laugh, and you could call me outgoing and really, really talkative.

Hobbies:
I like singing, dancing, reading and writing stories, and acting. I'm in my school choir and spend practically every waking moment singing -- but really softly in school, of course. I'm also in Drama Club and I used to write articles for the school newsletter in elementary school.

Motto:
'Weird is the essence of cool'. Not freaky or scary weird of course, but funny weird.

Favorite...
Music: Rock all the way. I like 'Because of You' by Kelly Clarkson, 'Wake me up When September Ends' by Green Day, 'Crazy' and 'I'd do Anything' by Simple Plan and 'Fame' by Irene Cara.
TV Shows: “Friends,” “Who's The Boss?”, “Judging Amy,”, “The Nanny,” “TRL,” “Gilmore Girls,” “Malcolm in the Middle,” and “Still Standing.” Mostly sitcoms and re-runs.
Movies: “Stand by Me,” “Ferris Bueller's Day Off,” “Spy Kids,” and “Anne Of Green Gables.”
Book: The Alice Series by Phyllis Reynolds Naylor, The Boys vs. Girls series by Phyllis Reynolds Naylor, and the Harry Potter books by J.K. Rowling.
Color: Dark blue, light blue and violet.

Goals:
I want to go to either the University of Minnesota or maybe I'll try to get into Harvard after I graduate. I want to get a degree or Masters in either English, Early Childhood Education, writing or singing. After that I want to either become a singer or actress and do some writing when I have time. If I can't make it, I'll either be an author or a kindergarten teacher.

I'm really looking forward to answering your questions and helping all of you!

Female mentor Stormie

About Me:
I live with my mom, stepdad and three-year-old sister in Los Angeles. My dad, stepmom and two other little sisters and my little brother all live in San Diego, but I never really see them. I just recently started going back to Church and it's helped me a lot. I guess I'm religious, but I wasn't always. I laugh at even the most stupid jokes and I love to run around doing things with my friends. I really love to get involved and challenge myself, because I believe if nothing challenges you, you're not doing something right. I'm also a serious movie buff! I go to the movies every chance I get and I'm currently attempting to play golf, I'm not very good at it though...

Hobbies:
I love to dance. I'm also a member of the International Thespian Society, an Ambassador for my school, and I'm an active member in Cancer Awareness Club at my school as well as Junior Statesmen of America. This summer I'm in the process of starting a non-profit organization trying to help kids who suffer from illness, disability, and poverty. I really love reading, as well as graphic design and theatre, both of which I do at school. I'm also a cheerleader at my school and I do costumes for all of the school plays.

Favorite...
Music: I love rock and alternative. I'm all about The Killers (I won tickets to a concert!), The Postal Service, Coldplay, John Mayer, E.B. Fraley, and Rachel Yamagata. I've also been known to dance to Spice Girls in my room when nobody else is home.
TV Show: “Alias”
Movie: “The Notebook”
Book: I have sooo many! I'll have to say all of the books in The Time Quartet by Madeline L'Engle, the Lord of the Rings books, and “Pride and Prejudice.” I also love the Harry Potter books and I'm dying for the sixth to come out!

Goals:
I want to help people, most importantly kids who are less fortunate than me. I want to be the best person I can be, I want to be a good dancer, and I want to get good grades and love whatever I'm doing.

Female mentor Vanessa

About Me:
Well, I have two brothers; Carlos and Alex, and one sister, Marissa. I’m the oldest. I live in California in the high desert. I finished high school a while back and I am currently studying for a degree in economics. Because my parents have been home schooling me since elementary school, I graduated high school 2 ½ years early. I’am a pretty out going person and I like to try new things. I am also pretty bossy, or so I’m told. I think that could be attributed to the first-born syndrome!

Hobbies:
I volunteer! Lately I have been reading a lot (“Gone with the Wind,” “To Kill Mockingbird,” “Alicia: My Story”). I play the guitar, too! I have been playing for a year or so and just joined a guitar ensemble.

Favorite...
TV Show: “Joan of Arcadia” and “Hey Arnold!”
Book: All the “Harry Potter” books (although Book 3 is my favorite!)
Movies: “Shrek” and “Fight Club”
