Cheating: From The Mentors From Joyce
Once, I was tempted to cheat on my math test. I didn't take the test seriously until the last minute, but since I had always been the top math student I wanted to get the top score in my class…even though I hadn't studied for it. But then I thought about the consequences. I realized that trust is something that you have to build up with time, and if you're dishonest even just once, it'll take forever to get people to trust you again. My mom had trusted me all along and I didn't want to make her upset, so I gave up the cheating plan. There are no good reasons for cheating; there are only excuses. Maybe

you've spent the evening watching TV or playing video games instead of reviewing your class notes. Well, then you need to bear some consequences of doing that. I do have a good tip for resisting cheating: whenever you want to cheat, try to imagine that someone who trusts you is sitting right behind you.

From Mikey
I'm a person who's very much against cheating. I don't have any friends who cheat (that I know of), and if I did, I would probably talk with them about it. If you stay on top of your work, you should never have to cheat because you'll know the material well enough. I think the best solution is to just keep up on assignments and take notes in class, so that you'll never fall behind and be tempted to cheat.

From Jessica
Cheating…we've all been there before. We can't help but want to peek at our neighbor's test for an answer. Some people resist it, others don't. I've been tempted to cheat a few times. Perhaps I didn't study the night before, or I just didn't understand the material. Either way, it's wrong. A few of my friends have even ASKED me to help them cheat. I responded with a "NO WAY!!" To some people it may seem like I'm being a bad friend, but if I help them cheat now, how are they going to take future tests when I'm not there to help them? A true friend will respect that, and won't cheat. What you can do is offer to help them study for the next test. It sounds so simple, and sometimes it isn't, but the only real way to resist cheating is to study. It really helps, believe me. After 10 years of school, I've learned that that's the ONLY way to do well on tests. Study on!

From Leah
I decided early on that I wouldn't cheat, and that cheating would only hurt me in the long run since I wouldn't be learning the material. If a friend asked if they could copy off my homework, I would say no, but I would offer to help them. In college, there are certain measures that the school and professors take to prevent cheating. One way is to have us submit our essays to turnitin.com, a website designed to search out who has been plagiarizing. Also, when we take exams we're assigned certain seats in the lecture hall and our student ID's are checked. Cheating might seem attractive at the time, but don't do it...it will hurt you in the end!

From Cyntianna
Sometimes school can be kind of a drag, and you can be really tempted to cheat on homework or tests. I'll admit that I have cheated in school before, but I realized that it's really not that beneficial. Once you get an "A" through your own hard work, you realize how much more satisfaction you get out of that. Plus, most of what you're taught in your classes, you will need to advance in other classes, so it's better to just try to learn the material rather than putting yourself behind and cheating your way through school.

From Tiffany
Among fellow students I've seen cheating on pop quizzes, major tests, and projects. There are also times when other students will pay another student to complete work for them. No matter how easy an assignment may seem, there always seems to be one person willing to cheat. Yes, I'll admit that I've been tempted to cheat, usually to help someone else on a test rather. If I'm really tempted to cheat for myself, it's because I feel I really need one good grade to at least pass the class. Sometimes it seems like helping a friend on one or two questions isn't really cheating, but you have to remember, if your name isn't at the top of the paper, it's like letting someone else take credit for your work. So when a friend asks for answers or wants you to cheat, remember that a) if your teacher catches you, they'll probably give you a zero on the test, and b) a real friend wouldn't put you in a cheating position.
