A FREE comprehensive storytelling resource to work with your existing literacy, speaking and listening strategies.

Why Storytelling?

Stories are favorites with children and adults alike. They have long been used by teachers to discuss issues, stimulate imagination, inspire creativity, and act as a means of raising children's self-esteem.

Written in association with teachers and educational professionals, this resource has been produced to encourage the age-old art of storytelling inside the classroom. Further benefits include: helping children develop their social skills; capturing the power of the imagination; understanding the relevance and potential of language; but most importantly encouraging intergenerational communication.

This resource uses the childhood adventures of Piggley Winks, a young pig and his friends in 1950's rural Ireland, in story format to demonstrate key aspects of:

• Narrative patterns and structures
• Physicality of language, rhyme, rhythm and alliteration
• Word choice and modification
• Interpretation and improvisation
• Listening and attentiveness
• Visualization and imaginative skills
• Appreciation of the oral use of language
• Awareness of historical and global culture
