Snuffy's Opposites Game - High & Low

It's easier for children to learn abstract concepts when they can actively participate in an activity to understand the concept.

This activity is intended for children with a range of skills, so keep going as long as your child understands and is having fun. Remember that there are a lot of right answers! If your child can't answer a question, that's ok. Leave the question open for them to think more about on their own. Then, come back to this game tomorrow or next week and talk more about it.

First, together with your child, put your hands up high to demonstrate high, then put your hands down low to demonstrate low.

Next, Look around the room and find an example of something that is high and something that is low. Ask the child to find something in the room that is high and something in the room that is low. If they don't understand the concept at first, give them another example of something high and then ask them to find something high too.

Finally, give an example of something outside that you can't see right now that your child will remember. For example: "The streetlights are high and the cars are low" or " The chimney is high and the flowers are low". Then ask your child to identify something outside that is high and something outside that is low.

You can also download the printable High & Low Activity Sheet to draw things high in the sky and low on the ground.
