Snuffy's Opposites Game - Day & Night

It's easier for children to learn abstract concepts when they can actively participate in an activity to understand the concept.

This activity is intended for children with a range of skills, so keep going as long as your child understands and is having fun. Remember that there are a lot of right answers! If your child can't answer a question, that's ok. Leave the question open for them to think more about on their own. Then, come back to this game tomorrow or next week and talk more about it.

First ask your child how they know when it is day or when it is night. If they are unsure of how to answer, give some examples.

  • The sun is up in the day and the stars are out at night
  • It is light in the daytime and dark at nighttime
  • The birds are singing during the day and sleeping at night

Ask your child what you do together during the day or at night.

Next, if it is daytime, ask, "What will we do tonight?" If it is nighttime ask, "What did we do today?

You can also download the printable Day & Night Activity Sheet to draw a daytime scene and a nighttime scene.
