Snuffy's Opposites Game - Old & Young

It's easier for children to learn abstract concepts when they can actively participate in an activity to understand the concept.

This activity is intended for children with a range of skills, so keep going as long as your child understands and is having fun. Remember that there are a lot of right answers! If your child can't answer a question, that's ok. Leave the question open for them to think more about on their own. Then, come back to this game tomorrow or next week and talk more about it.

First, ask your child who they know that is old. It can be an older sibling, a parent a grandparent or teacher. Remember, to a young child, anyone that even looks grown up is old!

Then, ask them to tell you who they know that is young. It can be a younger sibling, a neighbor or a new pet.

Finally, ask your child what they have that is old and what they have that is new. (i.e. "Which is your old toy? Which is your new toy?")

Be sure to help your child understand that being old is good thing by asking them how they feel about the people and things in their lives that are old and new. Many times, a beloved stuffed animal or favorite toy truck is preferred over the newer toy.
