Tarrytown Musical Puzzle
The Game:
The Tarrytown Musical Puzzle is an interactive flash game where children
place pieces of a puzzle to complete a Tarrytown scene with Jay Jay and his
friends while listening to some of their favorite Jay Jay songs. This game
has three scenes and two levels.
EASY: This level, which teaches shape recognition, is a good place to start
with younger children (2-4 year olds). In this game, the player places three
shapes into the matching "holes" in a Tarrytown scene. Each of the shapes is
recognizable as a Tarrytown character, Tarrytown structure or natural
object. To complete the puzzle, simply click, hold and drag the puzzle piece
you would like to place and then "drop" the piece into place over the shapes
matching hole. The puzzle piece will immediately "snap" into place when it
is placed correctly, If it is not placed correctly, you will be able to
click hold and drag it again until you find the right spot.
HARD: This level, which teaches spatial awareness, is a good place to start
with older children (4-6 year olds). This game is a traditional jigsaw style
puzzle with six pieces. The first thing you see when you select the "Hard"
level is a completed version of the puzzle, with instructions and a "go"
button. Click the "go" button to proceed to the puzzle screen. To complete
the puzzle simply click, hold and drag the puzzle piece you would like to
place and then drop it in the appropriate spot. When the piece is placed in
the right spot, it will "snap" into place. If you drop a piece into the
wrong spot, it will not snap into place and you will be able to click, hold
and drag it to another spot on the puzzle board.
Once the puzzle is completed, the puzzle will turn into a whole picture and
Jay Jay will say "Good Job!" You can download a different printable coloring
sheet from each of the three scenes.
Activity Tip:
Create you're own Tarrytown puzzle with any of the printable coloring sheets
found in this game, or in the coloring book section of Color With Snuffy.
First, print out and color in the coloring page. Then you either create a
puzzle with four pieces or eight pieces depending on how difficult you want
to make it.
To make the four piece puzzle, fold the page in half and cut on the fold
line. Then fold each half in half and cut on the fold lines again. You'll
have four pieces to your puzzle.
To make the eight piece puzzle, follow the four piece puzzle instructions,
but fold each of the four pieces in half again and cut on those fold lines.
You can make the puzzle more sturdy and reusable, by first gluing it to a
piece of card stock or card board before you cut it into pieces.
