I started playing the viola when I was nine years old. Many people do not even know what a viola is. They say stuff like, "Ummmm... is that some French word or something?"

When I first joined strings in fourth grade, I was discouraged from playing the viola (there were only two other violas and about 25 violins, not to forget one cello and a bass). People would say it's too low, or no one else plays that, but I stuck with it and now am very good at it.
