About Kids World Sports

Kids World Sports (KWS) is a high-octane, jam-packed sports documentary series for tweens. Each episode features two kids, from across the globe, striving for excellence in their chosen sports. These young athletes don't just have medal dreams – each has personal goals shaped by their unique circumstances.

KWS profiles kids who have the real potential to become tomorrow's sports heroes. They range in age from 12 to 18 and the sports they play cover the traditional (hockey) to the truly extreme (traction kite racing!).  Each story centers around a significant or pivotal moment in the athlete's life: the national team tryout, the big game, the scouting visit, the first time competing.

KWS follows the athlete during the hours leading up to the main event: the training, the preparation and the rituals. But the story delves deeper, revealing the struggles, the triumphs and the failures of each kid's journey.

KWS explores the areas of the athlete's life that other kids are curious about: Who are their friends? What about their family life? What do they eat? How do they balance school? Juggle a job?

Whether they win or lose, these kids serve as an inspiration for young athletes everywhere.

Educational Philosophy:
Designed to appeal to children between the ages of six to twelve, each episode of Kids World Sports tells the story of successful young athletes who are progressing towards their personal goals in their chosen sport.

Over the course of twenty-six (26) episodes, viewers are exposed to team sports, individual sports, extreme sports, culturally unique sports as well as some of the more popular sports known across the globe.

Kids World Sports seeks to spark children’s curiosity about sports and how physical activity can enhance health, outlook and everyday life. Kids World Sports serves as an introduction to the following:

  • Diversity of sports and sporting activities
  • Sport specific terminology and basic rules for each sport
  • Basic sport concepts and strategies
  • Physical skills and basic movement concepts
  • Importance of practice in learning skills and improving performance

Kids World Sports encourages children to explore the world of sports, engage in physical activities and to learn the importance of practice, determination, team work, self esteem and sportsmanship.

About this Site:
The Kids World Sports site has been designed to extend the goals of the TV program and expose kids, parents and caregivers to a variety of sports, the required equipment and skills, some of the benefits of being involved in a variety of physical activities and the sheer fun and excitement of discovering new and interesting sports.

Athletes
Kid athletes are the main characters in Kids World Sports and this area of the site includes profiles of over twenty real-life kid athletes who are deeply involved in their sport of choice, challenging themselves to grow, achieve and pursue their dreams.

The text in each profile has been written by the athlete. The Athletes area gives kids access to information about the included sports from a source they can directly relate to--another kid.

Sports
Over forty-five sports are described and summarized in the sports area of the site. These summaries include introductions to the rules, equipment and brief descriptions of how to play.

Games
Kayak Challenge and Snowboard Savage are two games in this area that allow kids to experience some of the more extreme kinds of sports covered on Kids World Sports from the safety of their computer screen. Kids can also express themselves and share their own sporting interests and enthusiasms by creating their very own personalized KWS Trading Card using words, images and sounds from dozens of different sports.

E-Cards
Kids, parents and caregivers can share their sporting interests with each other by sending E-cards and special Video E-cards that cover a whole range of different sports and unique skills and tricks.
