What is diving?

Divers perform a series of acrobatic spins and moves as they jump from a diving board into a pool.

How to dive

A diver stands atop a diving board and performs a standard move that involves turning and twisting the body before entering the pool. The diver is judged on his or her technical accuracy in performing the dive.

How to win

The diver who earns the highest score from the judges wins.

Equipment

Swimsuit – the swimsuit is the diver’s uniform, and may be the same colour as teammates’ uniforms.

Sport lingo

Springboard – a form of diving board that bends during the dive and helps the diver spring high into the air, which affects the type of moves they can perform in the dive
Platform – a form of diving board that does not flex or move, affecting the types of moves they can perform during the dive
