This indoor team sport is similar to soccer and basketball, with players trying to score goals by moving a ball into a large net. But in handball, players throw the ball into the net, rather than kicking it in.
Each team has seven players on the floor at one time. One player is a goalie, while the other six players move the ball up the floor to create a scoring chance. Players pass or run the ball up the floor, but a player can only carry the ball for three steps and then he/she must pass the ball or take a shot on net. The other team will defend its goal and try to stop shots or steal the ball to go back up the floor for a scoring attempt of their own.
The team that scores the most goals in the game wins.
Shoes – players wear special shoes so they can stop and start quickly on the floor
Uniform – each team wears its own uniform so players know whom to pass the ball to
Ball – the ball is handheld, larger than a baseball but smaller than a basketball
