Inline street skating is similar to skateboarding, with the skater performing tricks while wearing inline skates, also called roller blades.
An inline skate works like a hockey skate, and has wheels so the skater can move quickly. An inline skate has four wheels, with a large space in the middle for tricks so the skater can jump on and ride a rail, which is a big steel pipe. The skater’s tricks involve a lot of spins and jumps.
The skater’s performance is judged, and the scores are based on the difficulty of the moves, and the artistry of the performance.
720 – the skater takes a running jump into the air and spins the body around twice
900 – the skater takes a running jump into the air and spins the body around two-and-a-half times
1080 – the skater takes a running jump into the air and spins the body around three times
The X-Games – the biggest, highest-profile competition in inline street skating
Bowl competition – the skater does tricks on a bowl-shaped course
Street Competition – a larger course allows skaters more room, with rail-like surfaces on which skaters perform tricks for the judges
The big trick competition – skaters attempt the most spectacular move they can make in order to top all other skaters and win
