Motocross is a motorcycle race over a hilly dirt racetrack with many turns.
The person who rides the motorcycle is called the “rider.”
Racers compete by doing multiple laps in a race around a dirt track. The track has jumps and other rugged features. The motocross bikes are designed to travel over the rugged track at great speeds and also handle the pounding caused by jumps. The rider requires strength to control the bike on the dirt track, and to pick up the bike if it falls during the race. A motocross bike weighs approximately 100 kilograms (220 pounds).
The first rider to cross the finish line wins the race. Riders compete in three races, and the rider with the fastest combined time of all three wins the competition.
