It is a race in which competitors swim, then ride a bike, and then run, without taking a rest in between. The person who competes is the triathlete.
The triathlete must swim, bike and run as fast as he/she can against competitors. The race doesn’t stop between events, so triathlete must quickly change equipment to move from one part of the race to the next.
The triathlete who finishes first or has the fastest time wins.

Transition – the time the triathlete spends switching from one sport to the next, like racing out of the water, putting on shoes and bike helmet, and then climbing onto the bike to ride away.
