Dream Dinner
Make a menu and place cards for your family.
Materials
- Paper
- Markers
- Scissors
Directions
Ask your child what would be his dream dinner, including all his favorite foods. Then have him make a menu including all the courses, drinks, and dessert. Take a piece of paper and fold it in half. Help him write MENU on the front and decorate it. Then on the inside have him draw pictures of each thing in the meal. Label each dish, or have your child write the names if he can.
Also, he can make place cards for the dream meal. Have him cut out pieces of paper, about 3 inches square, or bigger if you want. Fold them in half so they can stand up like a tent. Write each family member's name on a card, or help your child write them. Then have him draw something on each card that represents that person. Finally, set the table and put the place cards down to show each person where to sit.
If the dream dinner has things you can really make for dinner, do it! If not, make your regular dinner and show the menu to everyone else at the table, pretending you are having the dream dinner. Tell them to find their name and sit at their spot, then enjoy the lovely meal together!
Talk About It
Talk to your child about his dream dinner. Why did he choose those foods? Is it a realistic dinner or not? Tell him about what your dream dinner would be, or describe the best meal you ever had. Then have him interview other members of the family about what their dream dinner would be and how they chose their favorite foods. He might learn about new foods or find out things about his family he never knew!
