Friendship Collage

Make a friendship poster for your wall.

Materials

  • Photographs of your child with friends
  • Poster board
  • Gluestick
  • Pen or marker
  • Art materials for decorating the poster

Directions
Look at photos of your child with friends, both current friends and friends from early years. Together, recall stories of experiences shared with these friends. Let your child choose some pictures to photocopy. If possible, do the photocopying together. Help your child mount the photocopied pictures on poster board, creating a friendship collage. Your child can dictate captions to go with the photos or simply write the names of his or her friends next to their photos. He or she may want to decorate the Friendship Collage with markers, stickers, colored glue, sequins, et cetera.

Talk About It
Did any of the Between The Lions episodes remind you or your child of friendships you have had? Tell your child stories about some of your own childhood friendships, both good times and conflicts. What did you and your friend like to do together? Did you ever get angry or annoyed at each other? What was the conflict about? What did you say or do? What did your friend say or do? How did the two of you work it out? If the friendship ended, you might ask your child, "What do you think we could have done to work it out?" Encourage your child to tell you stories about fun and/or conflict with his or her friends. Reassure your child that having conflicts and resolving them, or moving on, is a normal part of being friends.
