Imagine That!

Make mix-and-match fantasy creatures.

Materials

  • Paper
  • Markers
  • Colored pencils or crayons

Directions
This is a good activity to do with the whole family.

  1. Each person folds a piece of paper in thirds, the same way you would fold a letter. Hold the paper so the folded edge is toward you and the cut edge is on top.
  2. In the top third of their paper, everyone will draw the head and neck of a figure. It can be a person, animal, or imaginary creature. Extend the lines of the neck just a little bit below the fold, into the middle third of the paper.
  3. When everyone is done with their head and neck, turn the paper over so the middle third is on top. Tuck the top third inside so the drawing is hidden and pass your paper to the person next to you.
  4. On this new piece of paper, everyone will now draw the middle section of an animal, person, or imaginary creature. Again, you may want to extend the lines of the body a little beyond the bottom fold.
  5. When everyone is done with their middle section, turn the paper over so the bottom third is on top. Pass the paper to the person next to you.
  6. In the final third, everyone will draw the legs, feet, and perhaps the tail of a person, animal, or imaginary creature.
  7. When everyone is finished, unfold the papers and admire your mix-and-match drawings! Let everyone write or dictate a short profile for their creature, including name, age, favorite pastime, favorite food, and pet peeve.

Talk About It
Humorous and totally impossible things happen to the characters in these Between the Lions episodes and Related Books stories. After viewing or reading, talk with your child about what the two of you might do if the same thing happened to you.
