Song of the Seasons

Dainty buds appear on
Crisp new bark.
Abundant fruit and leaves
Sleep deep inside the buds.
A delicate scent fills me
With a warm pleasure-
For these are th trees in spring.

Leaves of many greens
Reign over chocolate branches.
Chirping birds return
To secret hiding places.
Swaying limbs provide my shade for writing-
For these are the trees in summer.

Creaking limbs are
Surrounded by swirling leaves.
Colorful they are,
In orange, tan, red, and yellow.
Singing to me the sounds of the wind-
For these are the trees in autumn.

Crystal snow
Falls from the branch.
A solitary leaf remains.
The frozen bark snags at my clothes-
For these are the trees in winter.

I smile at the trees and they smile at me
Because we are friends in the seasons.
