Miss Nelson Is Back

Language: English

When their teacher has to go away for a week, the kids in room 207 have big plans to “really act up.” LeVar is surprised in this episode as he discovers a mysterious treasure hunt, which leads him to be transformed by a make up artist and then to a mysterious magical performance by Black Stone the Magician. The real surprise turns out to be a birthday party for LeVar.

Here are activities to do after watching this episode:

Disappearing Coin Trick

For this magic trick, your child will need:
• four plastic opaque film canisters
• a coin
• rubberbands

1. Have your young magician put a coin in one film canister, attach it to his or her right arm using rubberbands, and pull a long sleeve over the canister. Be careful not to shake the canister at the wrong times.
2. Place three film canisters on a table before an audience. Explain that in one canister is a coin. Using the right hand (the one with the concealed canister), pick up one empty canister and shake it. The audience will think the coin is in that canister.
3. Then tell the audience to watch carefully as you move around the three canisters. Use your left hand and slowly rearrange the canisters as the audience watches. Then ask which one has the coin.
4. As a response is given, pick up the canister using the left hand, shake it. Of course, no coin. Move the canisters again, and ask again. Your young magician will drive everyone crazy because as long as the left hand is used to shake, the coin will not be found!

Miss Nelson’s Tongue Twisters…

Miss Nelson likes tongue twisters and wants you to try these. See how fast you can say them without making any mistakes…
• On Mondays Michael’s mother Mary mostly mopped.
• Lisa lost the large lemon for the lizard Lenny loved.
• Yesterday you yelled in the yard for a yellow yo-yo.

Treasure Hunt

For this fun and simple treasure hunt, you will need:
• 12 small rocks
• paint and brushes
• empty egg carton
• drawing paper
• reward snack

1. Have your children gather up a dozen small rocks.
2. Have them paint each rock differently, using different colors and designs. Then have them paint one letter on each rock to spell the words: T-R-E-A-S-U-R-E H-U-N-T
3. Place the rocks in the sections of an egg carton to dry.
4. Without your children knowing, hide the twelve rocks inside and/or outside the house. Draw a map to give clues to find each colored/lettered rock.
5. Give the map to your children and set them loose on a treasure hunt.
6. Once all the rocks have been found, have them arrange the rocks to spell the words Treasure Hunt, and reward them with a snack.
