Louis The Fish

The feature book is a whale of a tale about a butcher who yearns to be a fish and turns into a salmon. It inspires LeVar to go on an exploration of exotic marine life, tide pools, and dolphins while he explains that pretending to be someone else can be exciting and can also be a way of discovering how wonderful it is to be yourself. LeVar visits the New England Aquarium in Boston, MA, and the Aqua Circus of Cape Cod where trained dolphins Dixie and Dolly reside.

Here are activities to do after watching this episode:

Fish Nibbles

Hungry for a snack after viewing Louis The Fish? Here’s an easy one for your children to make.

You will need:
• a ZipLoc bag
• 2 cups fish-shaped snack crackers
• 2 cups favorite cereal
• 1 cup pretzel sticks
• 1 cup raisins or nuts

Have your child measure the ingredients, put in the ZipLoc bag, give it a shake, and it’s ready for nibbling!

 

Gone Fishing!

make fishers of your children, you will need:
• paper plates
• scissors
• crayons or markers
• foil
• yarn
• a stick

1. Fold each paper plate. Help your child cut out an eye hole on each side and a tail like this:
2. Color the fish any way you like. Seat the fish on the floor.
3. Form a hook out of foil.
4. Tie a length of yarn to a stick from your yard.
5. Attach the hook to the end of the yarn.
6. Have your young fisher try to catch a fish by hooking it through one of the eye holes.
