Fox On The Job

Language: English

Fox tries to earn the money for a new bicycle in several different jobs. He learns that jobs are hard to come by and sometimes he can’t be so lazy. In exploring the world of work, LeVar shares his list of household chores. He also interviews a young man who has started his own business, a dog walker who manages to walk more than one dog at a time, an architect who designs large Lego displays, and a police officer who works on horseback.

Here are activities to do after watching this episode:

Let’s Go For A Spin!

You will need:

  • a marble or very small heavy ball
  • a large glass jar, like a pickle jar or mayonnaise jar

Directions:

  1. Put the marble or ball on a flat surface. Do you think there is any way that you can lift the marble off of the surface without touching it?
  2. Put the glass jar upside down over the marble so it is touching the inside of the mouth curve of the jar. Hold onto the bottom of the jar and begin to move it in a circle rapidly. Make sure you keep the mouth of the jar against the flat surface.

What happens? Why do you think the marble “climbed” up the jar and stayed there as long as you were spinning it? What made if fall when you stopped?

Calling All Parents

If possible, take your child to your workplace for the day. This is a great way to allow your children to get to know what you do each day and to appreciate the hard work you do for the family.

Spruce Up Your Bike

Here are some cool ways you can make your bike look snazzy.

Snazzy Stripes
Buy reflective tape and put stripes on your fenders. This will not only look great, it will make your bike safer as well.

Card Motor
Want to make your bike noisy? You’ll need a playing card and a clothespin with a spring. Just clip the card on the fender brace on your back wheel so that the edge of the card is between two spokes of the rear wheel. When you ride, the card will flap between the spokes and make a noise as the wheel spins

Snazzy Spokes
Weave crepe paper in and out of the spokes of your wheels. You’ll call lots of attention as you parade up and down the neighborhood. Just avoid puddles and rainy days. The crepe paper will get soggy!

ALWAYS REMEMBER TO USE SAFETY WHEN BIKE RIDING. REVIEW THE HAND SIGNALS FOR RIGHT AND LEFT TURNS AND FOR SLOW OR STOP. RIDE ON!
