The Piggy In The Puddle

Language: English | Español

This is a funny story about a little piggy who gets into a heap of trouble over a puddle of mud. LeVar takes viewers behind the scenes to watch how artists bring this book to life through the art of clay animation. From painting and sculpting the characters, to the painstaking process of filming the action frame by frame, the secrets of “claymation” are discovered.

Here are activities to do after watching this episode:

Make a piggy bank

What you will need:

  • felt
  • 4 empty spools from thread
  • pipe cleaner
  • 1 gallon plastic milk jug
  • markers
  • glue
  • sharp knife for cutting slit

THIS IS A JOB FOR ADULTS ONLY

Using the felt, cover the cap for the nose, glue on thread spools for feet, cut a slit in the top for the coin deposit and use a pipe cleaner to create a tail. Decorate it with felt and permanent markers.

Make Playdough

There are parts of this recipe that
ADULTS need to do while children watch.

Measure and mix together in a large mixing bowl:

  • 2 1/2 cups flour
  • 1/2 cup salt
  • 2 packages unsweetened Kool-Aid™
(this will give the playdough its color
. . . and it smells good, too!)

This is the ADULT part . . .
Next Add:

  • 2 cups BOILING water
  • 3 tablespoons cooking oil
  1. The adult needs to stir quickly, mixing well.
  2. As the mixture cools, begin to mix with your hands (when it’s cool, kids can do this part).
  3. Kneed the dough thoroughly. When completely cool you can store it in an airtight container, or a zip lock baggie.
