What’s News?Does your family send a newsletter in your holiday greeting card each year? Why not have a family news edition for each season of the year? Choose a name for your family newspaper, design a letterhead, and choose special features for your paper. Some websites offer clip art you can use. Each family member can contribute an article or a drawing. You could scan in family photos, and even include a favorite family recipe. You are only limited by your imagination! Puzzling ComicsCollect comic strips from the Sunday editions of your local paper. Cut apart each frame and mix them up. Set a timer to see how long it takes different family members to read the strip and put it back together again. |
Comic StripsWhat is your favorite part of the newspaper? For many it’s the comic strips. Involve the whole family in creating your own comic strip. What character will you feature? Will it be a humorous strip or an action hero strip? Take a look at comic strips in your local paper to see how they are done, then try writing your own. You may want to make it a feature in your family newsletter. Online with the NewsWhile you are already online reading the activities in this website, check out some other websites that specialize in news for kids. They are www.morning.com and www.kindnews.org as well as Time for Kids at www.pathfinder.com/tfk. There are many news articles that would interest the entire family, games to play, activities to do, and ideas for creating your own newspaper. |
