Is This A House For Hermit Crab?Language: English | |
When Hermit Crab outgrows his old house, he ventures out to find a new one. Finding it becomes particularly humorous when that home is carried on the crab’s back! LeVar builds a house for the flying friends in his backyard while viewers watch the “Lifestyles of the Wild and Tameless” to see where a variety of animals live. Then viewers visit scientists who work in the city to protect and provide roosts for Peregrine Falcons. |
Here are activities to do after watching this episode: |

Who’s Hiding?Animals make their homes in lots of different places. For instance, worms make their home in the dirt or a rotting log. Ants build an anthill. A fawn’s home in the woods is a safe place for it to live since it can’t be seen easily with the spots on its back. Think of all the different kinds of animals you know and know where they live. Then draw a picture. In the picture hide your animals in their natural surroundings. Color your picture. When you are all finished see if a friend can spot your animals hiding in their homes. |
BirdwatchingTake a family hike and check out the bird population in your area. If you can, take along:
Each time you hear a bird singing, take a look through your binoculars. Describe what you see. What color is the bird? Describe the size of its body and the shape of its beak. Adults can help give an approximate length. What are its special features? Then look in a bird guidebook to see if you can identify it. Write the bird’s name in your notebook and do a quick drawing of it using colored pencils. In the meantime, while one family member is drawing, another can be checking out the next bird. |
