Appelemando’s Dreams

Language: English

Appelemando spends so much of his time dreaming, the villagers are convinced that he will not amount to much. In time his dreams change the village and the people in it. In this video LeVar explores art techniques and shows how expression through art comes in many different forms.

Here are activities to do after watching this episode:

Sewing Cards

Paste a picture from a magazine or coloring book on a sheet of cardboard. Then punch holes approximately 1 inch apart all around the picture. Your child can then practice lacing in and out of the holes with a length of yarn. Stiffen the end of the yarn by wrapping a bit of tape around it.

Patchwork Pictures

Provide your child with a variety of fabric scraps, scissors, a sheet of heavy cardboard or posterboard, and some glue. Then let your child patch together a picture by gluing the material scraps on the cardboard.

Paper Towel Magic

Your little artist needs white paper towels and food coloring to create these colorful surprises. Pour small amounts of food coloring into containers. Have your child fold a paper towel several times and then dip each corner of the folded towel into a different color of food coloring. Then for the fun part – unfold the towel and lay it flat to dry. No two designs will be alike.

Crayon Melt-Down

Work with your child to use old crayons and a kitchen grater to make crayon shavings. Have your child arrange some of the shavings in the center of a sheet of waxed paper. Cover with another sheet the same size. An adult can then press with a hot iron. See what amazing color patterns result!

Perfect Play Dough

Have your child help make a dough recipe that is great for little hands to get into.

  • 3 cups flour
  • cup salt
  • 3 tablespoons salad oil
  • 1 cup water
  1. Mix together the dry ingredients.
  2. Stir in the oil and water.
  3. Add water as needed to make a pliable dough.
  4. Once the dough is ready, your child can experiment modeling many shapes.

This dough keeps well in an airtight container.
