This book explores math from a different perspective as two tiny lizards check into an oversized Hotel Animal. LeVar discovers some of the many ways math is used as the MATCHBOX car production team demonstrates its process for “shrinking” cars, and a submarine sandwich shop owner fills an order for a 6’ long sandwich. |

Hotel HideawayHave you ever made a secret hideaway using boxes and blankets? Here’s what you can do: A hideaway is great for times when you want a secret hiding place all you own or when you want to have a clubhouse to invite family members or friends inside. Bring your favorite toys and games to your hideaway and have fun! |
Twice as bigHave your children imagine what things would be like if all of a sudden they were twice as big. Just for fun, measure an object and then draw a picture of one that is twice as large. Which things would be great if they were twice as big (a candy bar or ice-cream cone!!) and which would not be great (an ant or bumblebee!!)? License Plate MathWhether you are walking through the neighborhood or taking a drive, brush up on math skills while checking out license plates. The youngest members of the family can read each number they can see on a plate: 4-3-5, while older children can read the numbers as a whole: four hundred thirty-five. Ask your children to add the numbers on one plate: 4+3+5=12. As a challenge, have them write down the numbers they see on two or more plates and add those numbers. |
