Enemy PieLanguage: English | Español | |
When his dad suggests making an “enemy pie,” the boy in this book is excited, but confused about the requirement of spending an entire day with his adversary. In the end, he learns how to turn a best enemy into a best friend. A series of young friends share stories of how they become friends and how they make their friendships work. Then LeVar introduces us to two friends from very different backgrounds who spend the day exploring their cultural differences. They discover that they are more similar than they ever would have thought. |
Here are activities to do after watching this episode: |
||||
Creating A Friendship PosterTogether with your child look through old magazines and newspapers to find pictures showing friendship. Cut them out and make a friendship collage to hang in your child’s room as a reminder of what friendship is all about. Sharing with FriendsEncourage your child to invite a friend over to play for the afternoon. Help them make a pie or a favorite family dessert. During the visit share the episode “Enemy Pie” or another favorite book with them. This activity will help your child understand how sharing time with friends will strengthen their friendship. |
Make a ListWrite the letters “f-r-i-e-n-d-s-h-i-p” vertically on a large sheet of paper. Talk with your child about what each of those letters might stand for and write it beside each letter. For example: f might stand for fun because friends have fun together. It’s All About FriendsDiscuss with your child what qualities are important in friendships. Talk about what qualities his or her friends have that make them good friends. Assist your child in making a “friendship” book. Each page might begin with, “__________ is a good friend because ____________” or “ I am a good friend because ____________”. Have them create drawings that match the text. Staple the written and illustrated pages together to create a book. |
