Visiting Day

Language: English

A little girl and her grandmother visit the girl’s father in prison. In this episode LeVar introduces a family separated by a prison sentence, and they share what it’s like.

Here are activities to do after watching this episode:

Helping hand…

Sometimes families and friends have difficult circumstances. As a family consider how to help: volunteer to do some household or yard chores, provide items for a meal, assist with child or pet care, offer a ride somewhere, prepare a “cheer” basket filled with inexpensive or handmade items and deliver it together, invite them over for an afternoon, and so on. Involve children in deciding what to do and have them help so that they understand that doing for others in their time of need is important..

Thank you!

Encourage children to think of ways to say “Thank you” to community people who are employed in service occupations (police officers, firefighters, EMT workers, nurses, librarians, teachers, etc.). Talk about why their work is important and deserves thanks.
What you need:
• Paper
• Pencils, crayons and/or markers
• Envelopes and stamps (if mailing)
Have them write a note or make pictures thanking one or several of these people for the work they do. Send the thank you’s or deliver them together.

Wish you were here……….

Together with your child, create “memories” to share or send to a parent, grandparent or other special person who lives some distance away, or travels away from home.

  • Handmade cards & stationery
  • A favorite book or music CD
  • A small handmade photo album with special pictures
  • A picture in a handmade frame
  • An audio recording of your child or both of you reading a book
  • A video of your child doing everyday activities

Bridging the distance in this way can keep your child connected to these important people.
