Thoughts From Our Neighbors

I am carrying Fred's mission and vision with me in my career as a special education teacher.

I loved watching the show when I was little. Mister Rogers was my favorite person on the show. He was funny. I miss him. He was a good show to watch and little kids like me loved watching him on tv.

To Mister Rogers' Neighborhood: I remember watching the show when I was a little boy and all the lessons I learned from him He treated all chilldren equal no child was differnt than the other. Every child had a place in the world no matter what they looked like. I remember seeing him live I think it was in Seatle it was a K.C.T.S. presentation and it was fantastic. we took pictures of him. Some time back I even had puppets of king friday and queen Sarah they broke long ago but I always remember them. I will never forget him and his influance on me will remain with me the rest of my life

I grew up up with Mr. Rogers like thousands and thousands of other people. Now I am sitting on the couch seeing the junk my children are watching and it makes me wonder why they are t watch things like that and not PBS' Mr. Roger's neighborhood. Today's children's shows have bad influence on children. On Mr. Rogers neighborhood Fred Rogers never said any words like boobs like on iCarly wich my children are watching right now. I just told my children "No more of this!" S o now I feel great that they are now watching Mr. Rogers neighborhood. I have five kids, twin 4 year olds, one 7 year old, one two year old,and one 10 year old. Thank you Fred Rogers you will be missed.

?I remember the first time I saw Mr. Rogers' neighborhood as a little girl. I was not more than 6 years old. I stayed faithful and true even as a teenager. He taught me to be considerate of everyone's feelings and of course to tie my shoes! Most importantly, he taught me patience. The way he slowly talked and how deliberate he was with all his actions, it caused me to think about every move I made. I know it may sound weird, but he taught me to rethink each action and make sure it was the right thing to do. Now at the age of 29, I reflect on lessons learned and have incorporated them into my own children. I became a school teacher for special needs students and we even watch Mr. Rogers' neighborhood in class. With such a fast paced life, it is a wonderful reminder of how peaceful it is to come back to the quiet peace of the neighborhood. Mr. Rogers did speak to many generations and still does. His death still stings because I grew up with morals and many came from his show. As I reflect, I realize that it is a beautiful day in the neighborhood, no matter how bleak it may seem. I miss you Mr. Rogers! God bless.

My daughter, LunaLucia, is two-years old and loves Mister Rogers. I recall watching him when I was a child and learning valuable lessons. I am so glad that she is able to enjoy his programs as much as I once did.

Mr. Rogers, if I met you at this very moment words would escape me. I admire you for you are a man of such great integrity. You are truly one of the most impacting people in my life who have shaped me to become me. I didn't realize what you were doing when I was four or five but I now see. Fred, may the Lord rest your soul.

To Mister Rogers' Neighborhood: When I was first learning to read and write I sent Mr. Rogers a letter. I think it was the first letter I ever sent to anyone. I received a hand-written reply and an autographed photo. My parents made sure to remind me how special I was to get that letter and helped me frame the photo. That letter made a huge impact on my world view and my childhood. I have since read that Mr. Rogers answered every child personally. It is amazing to know that I am not the only child that got to feel like a personal friend of Mr. Rogers.

I will never forget the morning of Febuary 27th,2003 (my 29th birthday) when I turned on my computer to check email and saw on the aol news that Fred Rogers had died. I printed 2 articles tucked them away in a plastic bag to save and just cried fighting back tears I said, "He was just a nice man". I still like to watch the neighborhood and I have 2 DVD's on the neighborhood. When he visited Lou Ferrigino & Bill Bixby at the tv studio filming of the "Incredible Hulk" It was interesting to see how they got Lou all dressed up cause I thought that Bill Bixby REALLY turned into that monster! I also liked when he asked Lou, "Now you don't do this when you really get angry do you?" A good friend of mine died in a boating accident in 2002 and he knew the neighborhood by the back of his hand. He like to watch it when he got home from work. I hope he's up there now telling Mister Rogers how much he appreciates him.

Everytime I hear his opening song, it takes me right back to being six years old again. Thank you Mr. Rogers for taking the time to make each one of us in your viewing audience feel like you were speaking directly to us. How would we have ever made it without you? Thank you will never be enough. The world will never be the same as when you began.
 Angela - Houston, TX

I'm 28yrs old and I have had the great fortune to have grown up with one of the most wonderful neighbors of all. Mister Rogers was the embodiment of everything I believe in. Even at the age of 12 when I began tutoring at-risk kindergartners I knew that all these children needed was to feel loved. Looking back at all the valuable lessons Mister Rogers' had taught us I realize how deeply affected I was by his loving warmth. His genuine concern for others, especially for children resonates within and without.
