The traditional Chinese calendar is a bit different from the calendar we commonly use. In it, a new month begins when there is a new moon in the sky. Even though people in China now use a Western calendar, holidays and festivals are still based on the traditional calendar. For example, the Chinese New Year happens on the first new moon of the New Year, usually in January or February. |
