9 What happened at the end of your first year at Central?

Little Rock closed the schools the following year rather than have them integrated, so I spent a whole year out of school waiting for the NAACP to take the case through the Supreme Court. Then I left my family and moved to Santa Rosa, California. I had to move. The Ku Klux Klan put a reward on my head: $10,000 dead, $5,000 alive. All nine of us left--some of us because they were going to college, some of us with their parents.
