Tips: What to Do at a Reunion

There are a million things to do at a family reunion! Make use of family members' interests and abilities by getting everyone involved in the planning and letting people's talents shine. Remember to include activities for all ages!

Here are some ideas:

  • Produce a talent show.
  • Exhibit arts and crafts in a gallery.
  • Sing songs together.
  • Try on vintage family clothes and model them in a fashion show.
  • Recognize talents and achievements at a family awards ceremony.
  • Share music, stories, and poetry.
  • Organize a sports competition.
  • Visit family places.
Buzz: Meet Ione Vargus

The fun is meeting aunts and uncles and cousins you never knew. So that's how I get to meet my family. That's how I met Keaira. It's like a big vacation.

It's in my great uncle's backyard. I have a special job -- to take care of all the small children in the sandbox. I love my job. It's fun and game time. I'm looking forward to meeting family that any other time I wouldn't get to see. We have family all across the United States; some are in different countries even. And people just come together to spend time.

The kids get together really fast. They meet each other, they shake hands, they say "hi cousin," "hi cousin."

Right after church, it's kind of like a park setting where there's a canopy set up and tables where the whole family just sits and talks and gets to know each other. And the kids are at the sandbox getting to know each other. Meeting again, catching up on old news and new news. It's just a nice time to learn and experience your family. We have pony rides for everyone.

They meet each other, they shake hands, they say "hi cousin," "hi cousin," and start a game of football, or build a castle together in the sandbox, or all go on the pony rides... and it's like fast friends, and you just go, wow, those kids didn't even know each other two days ago!

We're going to have lots of fun, right, Keaira?

Keaira
Absolutely! I plan my summer so I never miss this. Never in my born days have I, and never will, schedule something for the second Sunday in August.

Brandon
Me neither.
