What was your favorite part of putting the exhibit together?
The "Indiana Jones" part of it. Traveling around California, meeting
people, and looking for evidence. Looking at old abandoned buildings and mining
sites. Looking in San Francisco at evidence buried underground. I also liked
meeting with people who collected Gold Rush objects or with people whose family
members had come to the Gold Rush. In all of these cases, we began to piece
together untold stories. These stories helped museum visitors understand what
the Gold Rush was like.
