How much real gold did you use?
Hundreds of pounds. We had the first flake that James Marshall found at
Sutter's Mill in 1848. We had gold nuggets the size of small tangerines. We had
huge masses of quartz gold, gold that was still inside big pieces of quartz
that had been dug from underground. We also displayed objects made out of gold,
including a solid gold ring that was made for President Franklin Pierce in
1852. The ring has a compartment with little samples of gold ore inside, and a
California grizzly bear on its top. It weighs a pound.
