6 Which part of the exhibit did kids like best?

At the end of the exhibit, we asked kids to write down what they liked. One thing was the gold panning exhibit. Outside the museum we had a whole mining camp set up, with a stream running through it. You could be a part of mining company, and learn about the people who were there in the gold fields. And you could pan for real gold. All the gold you found was yours to keep.

Another thing kids liked was the audio guide, which was like a laptop computer with a CD ROM and an LED readout. There were automatic messages that you could listen to along the way, but you could also search for information and go where you wanted. Kids said they wanted to be in charge of their experience, and with the audio guide, that's what they could do.
