What kinds of tourist attractions could kids visit?
There were lots of them, and they were designed to be fun for the whole
family. Some places, like Rock City in Tennessee, highlighted nature. Most
tourist spots had a wax museum, such as the Ripley's Believe It Or Not Museum
in Gatlinburg, Tennessee. In lots of places, you could find miniature golf
courses with huge concrete dinosaurs.
Florida's Panama City Beach had all kinds of attractions, including the huge
Miracle Strip Amusement Park, with its artificial volcano and 200-foot
observation tower. A lot of places featured live animals. In Florida, you could
visit alligator farms. In the mountains, you might see black bears in a
roadside zoo. There were even Western towns, where the cowboys would shoot it
out in the street--with fake guns, of course.
